Bernardo Sopelana (La Paz, Mexico 1981) is a freelance curator and cultural manager. His most recent curatorial projects include the exhibition Brisure de Symétrie at Galerie Sobering in Paris; SENSOWIFI by Enrique Radigales at Espacio FRÁGIL; Principio de incertidumbre at the GoMA; …y así sucesivamente… by Pep Vidal for SALÓN; ICEBERG at Matadero Madrid; Después de ahora at the Raquel Ponce Gallery; and the travelling exhibition Movimiento constante for the Institute of Mexico in Spain, the Cervantes Institute in Budapest and the M17 Contemporary Art Center in Kiev. As a cultural manager, he develops the exhibition space programme at La Eriza in Madrid. He was part of the team at the Elba Benítez Gallery, and was the general coordinator of the first edition of the a3bandas programme. In Mexico he worked as the exhibitions coordinator at the Garash Gallery. He writes for the contemporary art website nosotros.
He is the host in Mexico of the international CPR project (Curatorial Program for Research), and is currently preparing for his curatorship of the Mexico City section of JustMad 7, the international emerging art fair. He is the co-founder and artistic director of Calor Calor, a programme of artistic residencies in the Baja California Sur desert in Mexico.
