I try to give a new perspective to painting by altering reality in different ways, using different styles. The interaction lies in the illusion of being able to enter the picture, to surround ourselves with the painting, to form part of the scene.


1. What made you choose art as a profession?
I didn’t really choose it as a profession. It’s what I like doing and want to do, and bit by bit I’ve managed to get projects going.

2. How would you define your work?
A mixture of painting, installation and photography.

3. What subjects are you interested in?
In particular, everything related to expanded painting – painting that goes beyond two dimensions, such as direct interventions in the environment. I’m interested in the sensory side of things, experiencing things through works.

4. What resources – formal or otherwise – do you use in your work?
The strength of colours, the artist’s studio, appearing in photographs…

5. What relationship does your work have with reality? What are your raw materials?
My work is based on pictorial interventions in my environment or reality, which I photograph there and then or afterwards.

6. What, according to you, is the point of art?
I suppose the point of art is to offer other visions, different, ironic perceptions and feelings of what’s around us and about ourselves…

7. How do you hope the public will receive your work? What audience are you aiming at?
I hope people aren’t afraid of coming to look at my work. And with the installations, I hope they come inside, look around and sit down. I’m aiming at everyone and anyone, although given the nature of my work it’s my friends and those who are familiar with these places who tend to get most involved.

8. What qualifications have you got? What do you value most from your time in education?
I graduated in Fine Art. What I value most are the people I met, mostly fellow students.

9. How would you define your current professional situation? And in the future?
I can’t really complain. I’m young and forging a path for myself, although economically I only just scrape by.

10. Many artists say it’s difficult to make a living from their work; how do economic considerations affect you when it comes to work? Do you think this has a bearing on your work?
At the moment I don’t make a living from my work. I think this has more of a bearing on my life than on my work. My gallery owner helps me with photographic production and I manage to buy paints.

11. What do you look for or expect from your relationship with promoters and curators? What advantages and difficulties have you found with these relationships?
I hope it’s a natural, enriching relationship for both parties. I haven’t had any difficulties so far and the advantage is that they know much more about this world than I do, so I learn from them.

12. What do you think sets the arts scene in Madrid apart from elsewhere? What would you say are its pluses and minuses?
I’m not that familiar with the scene here. I suppose there are more people on the Madrid scene than elsewhere, but it’s almost always the same people involved in the same things.
